I never kill insects. If I see ants or spiders in the room, I pick them up and take them outside. Karma is everything. – Holly Valance
Summer evenings up at my cabin bring a mass or night flying insects hoping they can somehow reach the warm electric glow of the light on the other side of the glass.
As a child I was fascinated by many bugs… especially moths, butterflies, and lightning bugs. The sound a cicada makes in the heat of the summer day or the way a centipede propels itself with its rhythmic dance across the damp ground.
There’s a world of hidden beauty if you look close enough. Texture, colour, patterns, and shapes.
The same can be said for wild flowers, many of which are referred to as weeds. The lowly dandelion, clover, thistles, and wild grasses are just a few that we diligently pull and spray as we preen our lawns. When was the last time you saw wild grass blooming or noticed the pupa of a monarch butterfly on a milkweed? Watching the way plants and grasses sway in the breeze can be very relaxing.
The natural world holds infinite inspiration. You just need to slow down and take the time to examine it up close.
